The pelvic floor is the center and support of our body. Its proper functioning affects the health of our organs, body posture and intimate experience. It deserves our attention, regular care and lots of love ♥️

What exactly is the pelvic floor?

Pelvic floor is a complex structure of ligaments and muscles that provides support to the pelvic organs and stability to the whole body. It allows us to stand and walk upright, affects the proper functioning of the uterus, bladder and colon, and plays an important role in lovemaking, from the sensitivity of the vaginal wall to the ability to achieve orgasm.

When the pelvic floor is out of balance

Up to a quarter of women suffer at least once from a pelvic floor disorder. Pregnancy and childbirth, physical or mental stress, injuries and sedentary jobs - various circumstances and stages of our lives can lead to disorders of the pelvic floor area. These can typically manifest as incontinence, pain during sex or menstruation, but also as a seemingly unrelated problem. Back pain, bloating or difficulty defecating can also be a sign of dysfunction.

Gentle care as prevention

Manifestations of imbalance in the pelvic floor area are so normalized (often even by doctors) that we routinely wave our hands over them and clench our teeth. However, most problems can be effectively prevented with conscious care that will allow the pelvic floor to remain firm and flexible at the same time. Whether we're experiencing incipient discomfort or just want to get to know and connect with this area of our body, it's never too early or too late to get active with our pelvic floor. You can read a few tips to get started already in this article, we have saved others for you until next time.

The key is balance

The strength and power of the pelvic floor should be in harmony with its flexibility and ease. Just as the pelvic floor muscles can be relaxed, this area can also be overloaded and tense. That's why it's important to complement strengthening with relaxation. You can try, for example gentle exercises for activating, relaxing and strengthening the pelvic floor, which were created in collaboration with Lenka Vojtovič from the KINISI physiotherapy center.

Put yourself in expert hands

If you feel signs of imbalance and suspect that something is wrong with your pelvic floor, it is advisable to contact with a physiotherapist specializing in the area of the pelvic floor and gynaecological physiotherapy. Different care will suit each person based on the condition of the pelvic floor. The expert will investigate in depth the possible causes of your problems and recommend appropriate exercises tailored to you.
